Founded by horticulturist Gail McCrory in 1985, we are a family-owned business with Dallas roots.

After receiving her degree in Horticulture from Texas A&M University, Gail immediately went to work as Lead Landscape Supervisor and Horticulturist at the Dallas Country Club, where she worked to plan and keep the extensive gardens in top condition for over 25 years.

In the 1980's, DCC Chef Ernst Gruch expressed a desire to use fresh ingredients in his kitchen. Gail accepted the challenge to develop one of Dallas' first, professional edible gardens. Here she developed her style of using organic soil, sustainable fertilizers, and innovative techniques to grow the plants on a schedule while retaining natural flavor and nutrients.

Gail's reputation grew as her gardens did and through the years many admirers requested her to design, install and maintain landscapes and gardens at their private residences. Gail has operated her own landscaping business with a view towards clients that are interested in the highest quality and care for their homes.

philosophy of organic gardening

Gail only uses effective, scientifically researched, organic soil additives to ensure that her nutritious, healthy plants promote healthier living for her clients. She now specializes in organic and sustainable gardens for private residences, country clubs, restaurants and schools.

People have never been as knowledgeable about the tremendous benefits that organic landscapes and gardens can have on people, animals, and plants. Most landscape companies use chemical fertilizers because it is hard to argue with the immediate visual results and prices. But we now know that these artificial additives deplete the earth of trace elements and microbes needed to keep soil, and therefore plants, healthy. As the soil becomes less nutritious for the plants the plants become more reliant on the chemical fertilizer, requiring higher doses and more applications which means they are actually more expensive in the long run. Also the chemical buildup from multiple applications eventually causes runoff that is poisonous to animals and people whether it is on the ground, becomes airborne through micro-particles, gets absorbed by our vegetables, or seeps into our water system.

Fortunately this can be reversed over time through the applications of natural fertilizers and microorganisms. Gail is adamant about not only making your yard beautiful but also safe and healthy first and foremost.

towards organic urban agriculture

It was Gail’s dream to walk into her yard in the evening and amongst her flowering cucumber vines, pick a few, and have raw cucumber on the table at dinner for her family. Not only has she already lived this dream herself but she has made it possible for many of her clients as well. Gail found that this aspiration is only the beginning as she is now trying to spread the joy and benefits of gardening by teaching them to the next generation.

More than ever people are seeing the benefits of gardening and organic living. Gail McCrory wants to be on the crest of the wave helping and leading through beautiful, organic, and sustainable landscapes.
